Malibu mentioned during the infamous Trial that y'all had an active Greeter & Mentor Program ... shall we give that a boost? I'm not sure what's happened in the past with this - can someone pls fill us in with a brief history (so we don't have to reinvent the wheel)?
Calling for volunteers to greet & mentor the newer folk within our community ... maybe post whether you can be a Greeter (hang out at the LMs into Anty - the dock and in town) or Mentor [um, like a Corporal (military) or First Mate (navy & pirate)]
... whats the best time(s) that you're available? Is it possible to use the ning for a roster (if we want to be that organised)?
I'm sorry did i miss something here? I haven't seen Marlee throwing anything except expressing an opinion, providing knowledge, and being pretty polite (especially for a pirate!).
You might need to point out her faux pas so that I can speak with her privately about it, after all that would be the ladylike and respectful thing to do.
Perhaps the greeter program need to be revised and regionalized. Also I think if you bear a title above the normal ranks you should be prepared to lend a hand in greeting and giving tours when available to do so.
^^ OK Cathryn Beaumont and I have chatted - and she's providing a notecard about training greeters & mentors. I'll do a tour of the dock and visitor centre (which I'm assuming are the two main places of new visitor interest) draw up a list of resources, and post these findings here for comment. BTW, I like Bridget calling it "The Welcome Centre"
I'll also be asking the relevant groups to provide a list of volunteers to be a mentor and/or greeter. If'n ye'd like to do this, please make contact or post here :^)
As far as the pirate group is concerned, may I volunteer as a mentor and contact person
Antiquity is already one of the very best places in all SL ~ this mentor program is about showcasing that even further ;^)
Gaia - it would be great to have you representing the pirate faction - may I volunteer you as a contact asap -- and we'll set up an IM mailbox for you at the docks in Lagoon?
(btw, I keep missing you in world -- it's good to see you settling here in Antiquity, -- you are proving to be a resource for the whole community very quickly-- looking forward to more silly good times like we've had in the old days :) )
Thanks Bridget /salute (and I only ever did that once before ... to Chase - feels funny saluting me gunner, but ye proved yeself time & time & time again) ~ contacts noted
Thanks Marlee ~ we've had fun before? Sillly is as silly does ... Sure, if'n the pirates will accept me as a mentor ~ all I'm doin' is runnin' an idea up the flagpole, see if'n anyone salutes it, if'n any does, I'll go with it
All this talk on Forums is well and good, but we must never forget that many people do not read the forums. I for one only access forums from work. Occasionally I acess this one from home as it is blocked by my employers security. Many people are been left out of this discussion and some of them have lived in Antiquity a long time. There are people posting on the forums who have never introduced themselves to me or me to them. I have and do always try to make new people welcome to my sim and encourage them to explore the whole of Antiquity. So please do not leave the rest of us residents out.
Pamus brings up a good point. We need to share the URL for this Ning far and wide among the residents and regular visitors to Anty. I do not remember how I accidently stumbled upon it (but many of my friends were here long before I was).
This thread is a week old and we're getting the outline of the history & where we can take this project. This ning is a great tool for workshopping ideas like this even though many discount it as a talkfest. We've covered a lot of ground with these few pages of comments.
I've chatted inworld regarding this with Ladies Cathryn, Angel & Arnya, left IMs for Rory DeBruyere and have had brief contact with Slam. Others have expressed their valuable opinions here.
Now that we're up to speed on the nuances of it all we can take it to the next step of producing something to take to the broader community. I'm summarising the ideas presented here and the resources that we can draw on, and will present that inworld to the group for further comment as quick as I can.
Antiquity is growing rapidly and is 24/7 ~ the RAN have organised their Comadoors from different times zones to better provide duty officers around the clock, and thats something we should take into account with the mentors so that visitors from around the globe get an introduction.
If'n ye ain't run into me at Antiquity in the past year, I dunno why ~ t'is not like I be a shy wallflower LOL ;^)
This forum is not as well laid out or precise as the main one, topics are harder to find. Also the words "social networking" hit the corporate security eyes. Does any know if the two Forums could be linked?
I see the replies at work and have to wait to get home before I can read anything; it is a tad frustrating.............. Grumble over.
A thought that crossed my mind, a welcome pack placed for Antiquity as a whole could placed on every private sims TP point
