Community - The Heart of Antiquity

Hi Everyone.

First thx you to accept me in this great forum and as well in this great group of Sim. I played from a few days now and I realy enjoy the experience.

I have a few questions about ROE. Yeah I am a pirate and the word rules give me some allergy.

More seriously my question are the following:

1. What is the background of these rules? I was a bit surprise in my first day about so many rules when realy the effect of being sink is realy zero in term of game play (you just have to rez the ship again I guess) and Rp (i don t think you have any RP penality when you go to water). So I am interested to understand the origin, I guess this must have a good reason and it will avoid me to do mistake.

2. How do you match these rules with Role Playing. I am here as well for the role play (fight is fun but I am not for game match). For instance if you want to play a pirate all these rules does not kill a bit the role playing part. I will like assume than everyone having the tag of Antiquity is leaving ine the same world and pirate, navy etc...are part of this word.

3. I have read that you can come back to fight after a very short time. Does it means that boat fight are realy out of any role playing? It is a // activity? Meaning I can fight about someone and this does not affect my relation with him on the long term from RP perspective? I am a bit confuse about that.

Thx already for your answers and for all the help and game that you have provide me IG.

Dolores.

Well first of all I'll let you know that the Senate ROE team is currently working up a new ROE. There are some additons and subtractions and reorganization of the way the ROE is presented.

Ship battles, the ones we schedule as regular nights we pretty much refer to as 'social' battles and since they tend to be free for all or some other configuration of a contest people should not be allowing the actions during these battles to affect thier roleplay later on.

Now, after that is said when social time is over, and this can last about 2 hours, then whatever happens out there on the sea is up to you and your opponent. If you are having a friendly contest to practice, then obviously you are not going to be holding something against them in roleplay after the battle.

However, if you CHOOSE to have a roleplay battle then you certainly would have some agreement with the other party that your battle is part of your roleplay with them. I would hope that such a battle had some sort of roleplay before hand that would have instigated the use of combat (sea or land) to resolve some conflict. What you agree to is up to you basically.

Some of us in Antiquity are there for much lighter reasons, social, than they are there for roleplay so you will need to keep that in mind. Slowly the roleplayers will find you and start interacting on a regular basis. We tend to gravitate towards each other that way. Like bees to honey. Sweet sweet roleplay!

Happy adventures Dolores, and hope to see you soon.

Well, I find that in SL as in RL we are all accountable for our actions and innactions. As Oma, my cap'n pointed out, role play is just that. There is always the danger of "Running a foul" this is when no agreement has been decided between both people. I had an incident happen in a melee involving a rescue. After the rescue had been done I found myself in the open, in the court yard. All of a sudden I was attacked by another member of another crew.
If not for the actions of Sazzy placing her avatar between my attacker and my avatar, I would have died way before Scattered sootin me in the back, which I found funny and went for an Oscar death scene.
The slashing I had recieved from the other, left a bad taste in my mouth for melee battles and will refrain from them in the future, it has also created bad feelings toward this person and myself. It is the same risks we take in the "Real World" every day. For most part, the ROE I believe try to eliminate this. As most things in SL it was my first melee, as a noob it has given me a negative reference to judge from.

There is a difference between a fun free for all battle and a serious role play scenario (has been a while since we have done one here). The new ROE developed so that basic rules (about 12) can be read quickly (and the explanations and rationale only need to be read to resolve disputes and to clarifying what is really cheating).

I am afraid there are many people in SL that approach combat role play as a win at all costs situation (while others want nothing to do with combat and just want to wander Victorian gardens or build them - these folks need to be protected from home invasions by the first group).

If I understand correctly the concept we have:

1. All people does not want to be in role play mode. Rules regulate interaction between both groups.

2. Some people have as activity fight taken out of the global context of the sim (like a football game). Rules make sure they are not disturb by other people not participating to this activity.

Yes, there are times when we don't want to be in role play mode. Like, when I noticed a race course in my gunboat and showed up at the yacht club. We had a very entertaining chat about gardening. We were socializing over tea and buscuits. So, not everything is role play, because we are also neighbors,Anti is a community, as well. As in RL we all have a role in this community.

Oh, Admiral, I agree with you completely there. I am still learning the ropes, at times I still get snarled up in em, lol!
But, I am practicing melee, may be in the future I will enjoy it more, as now I know to have melee turned on when in melee, ROFL!!!
