Community - The Heart of Antiquity

Ahoy Mates.
I am at the moment putting in place with a few friends an rp project.
We would like to create a place where we can offer to people a permament role playing as well new rp plot via a mission system.
I will write more about that later.

However I have a few questions:

- Do we have any standard rp rules across sim? Marie Gallante is an rp sim but i am not sure the rp rules are standard. I am speaking about points like death, incapacity, capture etc....

- Even if it is only my unique critic to Antiquity so far, I have to say that the meter looks like the one we were in the pre history ....Gorean people have a fair amount of good meters. The one use in Port Kar for instance have profession and different attributes by profession. The sim of Korat is as well developing a good meter etc...Any project of replacing this meter to offer more support to role playing people?

- For our project we will look for different factions of people with whom we can generate adventures. I will be interested to know for instance if we have a trader guild, a smugglers association etc...the objective being to set destinatary to some of the stories

- at the end i would like as well to know if there is in Antiquity any group of people meeting to try to develop more rp on a constant base. I do not want specialy to develop this project in our side and i am realy open to any others group of users working in the same direction.

Our project will be base in Marie Galante since we have received many support and a place from Alanxo. But I do not think that should be limited to only one sim.

Antiquity Jamaica is a full roleplay sim. For roleplay rules please read the brand new ROE we released last week. Also the private sim might have some roleplay standards to consider as well. Also, people have roleplay information in thier profiles.

Read covenants...there is no solid requirement for a combat meter but spd-j is standard and it is workable for those who actually willing to -roleplay- a combat battle. To me less code and more co-writing a battle with someone is more fun. (I used to do combat that was entirely typed with only a dice roll to determine success or failure.)

I would heavily caution on using ANYTHING that says GOR on it...again see the region Covenants.

Yes we have a trade roleplay I will be discussing it again at the Tea at the keys event this month (27th?), we have smugglers, we have people willing to roleplay and open to having you come roleplay with them.

All I can say is when you find someone who likes to roleplay, keep track of them and don't let them go! Eventually they will come to play with you when they see you have similar interest.

I think if you read the old blogs and Roleplay Group posts here on this ning you will see what we have been doing here in the last year. And also you can see WHO have been working on such ideas and concepts as you have presented.

Feel free to contact me in world I would like to hear your ideas!

I am saying Gor as I could say for instance the Western Sim using as well real good meter simulating the need of food and rest. It is an example of role play sim using different type of instrument to support the role play. This has nothing to do with Gor and I am sorry if I have write it on an unclear way.

I am as well partisant of any kind of roleplaying. Sometimes fights are part of the role play, specialy for some group, and it is realy good to have a good support in term fo gameplay. It makes as well the management easier sometimes. This is in my sense one of the advantage that can offer computer, removes all these aleatory check we were using when doing table roleplay.

@Bridget: thx you. We will definitvly go ahead with the project, I just wanted making sure it does find a place in this wonderful group of Sim.

Aye, I think its a wonderfully brilliant idea! Keep me posted on it too!

If you're looking for a meter that includes things like food and water, consider looking at the SpellFire meter.

I think you should feel free to develop what you wish within in your own sim. The new ROE (rules of engagement) addresses the written role playing rules for Antiquity (send me an IM in world if you need a copy). The meters are an open question. So far no one has submitted any for review or evaluation by the Senate weapons committee (nor has any one given us the criteria to evaluate any of these meters). Quintus Beaumont, Drake Moyer, and I have been asked to work on an idea for an Anty wide role play this fall (Qunitus is heading up this effort). Bosun Greyabeard has similar interests for shorter term RP.

I have reviewed a few of these meters and posted my findings here on the ning several months ago. I believe that when the senate formed the Weapons Committee people thought that the meters would be included in this group. Maybe there is an need to have this clarified and amended to the duties of the Weapons Committee?

Delores I do like the idea of needing food and trade. The merchant trade system that was developed by Daren Blackadder has been the attempt to make this happen. I don't know so much about having to stop and eat food all the time...my time on SL is limited and I do eat and drink during rp quite a lot...however...I do like the idea of an economy. I know Daren Blackadder has already hired out a scriptor to work on some sort of money pouch/hud thing so that is in progress.

I'd like to see all these things in one system though. To date I own/tested DCS2, spellfire, spd (original), spd-j, Honor Roleplay System, collission meter, gor meter, RPS (roleplay system) by blackflag & jezebel (very promising!), Deadwood rp/combat meter (Has the need for food built in!)...and the one used in the Barbary Coast sim city of Korate RPG I think it's called.

Another one I want to find and try out is called Roleplay Gaming Combat System Called RPCS it looks interesting. I'll look in world to see if I can find it as it is new for 2009.

The best thing to do is just collect them and test them out. Each one has something the other one doesnt. Myself...I'd be fine with a type written combat scene using a simple dice roll against character skills and some sort of economy hud that gives me roleplay coin (not lindens!) to play with. But others like these more detailed game hud systems and so the only way to figure out what you like to use is to try them.

Once you figure out what you like, you can get other sim owners to agree to use them too. I am pretty sure that Antiquity was meant to be flexible in this area since not everyone is there for the roleplay it is hard to enforce what system to use. Especially when so much linden has been spent on spd weapons. I'd like to just see the addition of the economy at this point.

Many of these game systems include some support for 'capture' which IMHOP can be done just fine with spd/j through roleplay. Since Antiquity ROE states such rp has to be by consent anyway...use the spd system to bring your opponent 'DOWN' and then ROLEPLAY the capture/arrest or whatever. If the person is not agreeing obviously they will not cooperate. So then you end the encounter. If they do agree they will roleplay along with you. Not everything has to be enforced by code. This is why I fought in the new ROE to state that just because your meter says you are 'DOWN' you are not "DEAD". That way there is more room for some 'after battle' roleplay.

My understanding Oma is that the weapons committee approved submitted ships and weapons. They do not research or recommend weapons to others. We need a developed criteria for what is to be in a meter (the ROE committee has given us the ship standards they may need to give us a meter standard). If the weapons committee formulates the standard and then evaluates against their own standard they will be accused of bias. As always, we work for the Senate and will perform as charged.

I think I do agree with you.

Meters and so on are just support and it does not stop people to agree. I think it just help to simplify mecanism.
My only comment will be that players should accepts the rule or not. But not behave case by case depending of the situation...

If you don t want to role play don t wear the meter.
I have seen a lot of time, in many place, many players being completly ilogical and incoherent because they don t accept the consequences of their act. To take an example, let s imagine a caracter having a violent behaviour (rp speaking) but that will not accept the fight or the consequences of the fight. It creates some kind of invulnerable super hero that can ruins other people game. My optic is always the same, pay the consequence of your acts or don t act.

Having say thay, I think meter managing money and economy have the advantage of pushing some roles as for instance trader. It is very difficult to have an economy when people have no need at all.

Gor has try these Role Playing Server where you have production unit. It is a good way to avoid the magic creation of good , destroying completly the role of others profession as for instance traders. In our case that will be great to move goods from one side to the other depending of the production. This give roles to many people. Traders need to transport, navy needs to protect etc.....this is I think the way a world get coherent, playing the details.

I have to say as well that the meter discussion will ultimatly be a responsability of the sim owner. We are guest and we will behaves as guest. Before bringing this subject to the table I have spoke to Alanxo, our sim owner, to get her agreement. I think she is part of the weapons comission.

PS: from an RP perspective death should be ban from the possibilities. A death person is death and death does not come back to life .....i think most of the rp players speak about incapacity, injured, etc..f

Please find here more details about the project itself.

Feel free as well to contact me, propose ideas, or whatever you think to be important.

We are looking as well to interact with many others groups and maybe re-enforce or create dynamic between these groups.

For instance yesterday we have been in Jamaica and learns about that treasure...this is the kind of information that can circulate in the shadows of our bar and fail in good or bad hands.

As you see we are looking for people to join the staff and develop the project and others to interact directly or inderactly with us.
