A question is posed, whomever gets the first correct answer (and is acknowledged correct by the questioner) get to pose the next question:

Here be the articles, or guidelines if ye will:

1: I will ask a question at the end of this post.
2: Post an answer if ye will.
3: If I confirm that your answer is correct, you post the next question.
4: If an answer is wrong, then the asker should use his or her judgement - give people more time, give a hint, or ask an easier question.
5: Ask reasonable questions. The goal is to have fun, not to stump everyone.
6: If someone gives an answer that is true, then it counts as correct, even if you were thinking of a different answer. For example, if you asks who was the woman who sailed with Calico Jack, and you are thinking of Mary Read, and someone answers Anne Bonny, it counts.
7: Questions do not have to be about history or even pirates, but let's try and keep it within the time frame 1750-1900.
8: If ye don't know an answer, then researching it is okay, even googling.
9: If its your turn to ask, you have three days to post yer question. After that, whoever gets there first can ask the next question.

I'm still laughing after hearing "Weeki Wachee"

Now we get "Gitche Gumee" LOL

Ok then the English name is Lake Superior!

Gaia, you should know that there is a river down here in Florida by the name of Weeki Wachee. I make a kayak run down there once in a while. It's also an old 50's era mermaid show. You'll find it on the west coast of central Florida!

Aye, I googled Weeki Wachee and read about the mermaids protesting to save their springs. I had no idea mermaids were so politically active.
Weeki Wachee is an island on Antiquity Keys - I'd not heard of it before that (and Gitche Gumee is new to my ears too)

By the shores of Gitche Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea-Water,
Stood the wigwam of Nokomis,
Daughter of the Moon, Nokomis.

Who was Popeye's dad?

Poopdeck Pappy-
Poopdeck Pappy is a fictional character featured in the Popeye cartoons and comic strip. He was created by E.C. Segar. He first appeared not long after Popeye acquired Eugene the Jeep. Popeye decided to use the creature's supernatural knowledge to find his father. An expedition was set up to go to Poopdeck's home on Barnacle Island, which included Toar the caveman and Olive Oyl. The ungrateful father answered Popeye's greeting with, "You look like something the cat dragged in... I don't like relatives." He came to Popeye's home anyway, followed by some mermaids whom he had flirted with. Poopdeck Pappy made his first animated appearance in the Popeye the Sailor short "Goonland" (1938).
Sounds like someone I know...
